Community Focus - Tonbridge

Tonbridge is a historic market town on a pretty stretch of the River Medway situated between Tunbridge Wells and Sevenoaks, and within the medieval landscape of the Weald.

Tonbridge is a well populated area that continues to grow in popularity with commuters and those looking for family homes. The direct train takes from just 40 minutes going into London Bridge, Waterloo East and Charing Cross. Road links are equally good with the A26 to Kings Hill and Maidstone, A21 to Sevenoaks, M25 and M20 all easily accessible.

Local residents benefit from extensive amenities including two retail parks, and the Tonbridge area also has plenty for families with young children – a leisure centre and pool, crazy golf, a trampoline park, climbing centre, soft play, National Trust properties and a public library.

Being situated on the riverside also allows residents to enjoy the activities on the River Medway such as kayaking, rowing boats and skippered boat trips. If you prefer to keep your feet on dry land, the 13th century Tonbridge Castle right in the heart of Tonbridge is a unique place to enjoy fireworks, music and outdoor cinema.

There are many popular pre-schools and primary schools for families in the local area to choose from and noteworthy senior schools include The Judd, Tonbridge Grammar School and Weald of Kent Grammar School; all of which are graded Outstanding by OFSTED. The town is also famously home to Tonbridge School since 1553.

Tonbridge high street has also experienced a foodie explosion, with a farmers market, independent coffee shops, bars, restaurants and cafes in the town centre. Traditional shops are not forgotten in Tonbridge though, and you will still find a butcher and fishmonger in the town.

The vibrant and growing town of Tonbridge is surrounded by many desirable villages including Leigh, Hildenborough, Tudeley and Hadlow. Each area has its own unique identity making up their part of the beautiful Kent Weald.
